Trump Calls Relatives of Attacked National Guard Soldiers to White House
Former President Donald Trump revealed on Sunday that he has extended an invitation the loved ones of a Guard member fatally shot last week to come to the presidential home.
He noted that he contacted her family and they were “devastated”.
Background on the Heartbreaking Incident
Soldier Sarah Beckstrom, twenty years old, was lost her life in a violent incident on last Wednesday in DC.
Her comrade, Andrew Wolfe, 24, is still in the hospital in serious condition.
Gatherings across the state have been held in their honor.
White House Call
The commander-in-chief explained he’s proposed a meeting at the presidential residence for the parents of both soldiers of the state National Guard.
“I stated: ‘When you’re prepared, because that’s a difficult moment, come to the White House. We’re going to honor her,” the president told journalists. “And likewise with Andrew, recover or not.”
Community Reaction
Mourners gathered over the past few days at a local school in West Virginia to honor Sarah.
Both she and Wolfe had been working with the military unit as part of the president’s national effort to assist law enforcement in DC.
Paying Tribute to the Soldier
“She was the type of pupil that instructors hoped for. She conducted herself with calm resilience, a bright grin and a positive energy that encouraged those around her,” Jarrod Hankins, the head of her former high school, stated to the media. “She was sweet, caring and always ready to support those in need.”
Service details for Beckstrom are yet to be finalized.
Judicial Steps and Government Adjustments
Authorities have accused a twenty-nine-year-old individual from Afghanistan with a charge of murder and two counts of attempted murder while carrying a weapon.
The tragedy caused the government to halt asylum processing and temporarily stop granting visas to holders of passports from Afghanistan.
Status of Andrew Wolfe
The airman, a resident of the city, started his military career in February 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of his local high school, per the Associated Press.
He continues to receive treatment and is “fighting for his life”, West Virginia governor Patrick Morrisey mentioned on Fox News Channel’s The Sunday Briefing.
The state’s top lawyer Bondi stated on a news show that she aimed to meet with the family.
Memory of Beckstrom
Sarah, from her hometown, graduated from Webster County high school in mid-2023 and began her service not long after, serving as a MP with honor, per the military.
“She had a lot of goodness and she certainly had courage,” Morrisey told the audience at the vigil. “Though her life was cut short, she has created a legacy that’s going to be remembered always.”
