Toronto Blue Jays Secure Fall Classic Meeting With the Dodgers
Springer contributed to the Astros securing the championship in the 2017 season.
The Toronto Blue Jays earned a spot in their maiden Fall Classic since 1993 by overcoming the Mariners in the decisive Game 7 of the AL Championship Series.
Behind three runs to one, the star outfielder hit a three-run homer in the seventh, leading the only Canadian franchise in Major League Baseball to a 4-3 series win in the series. Next up are the Dodgers, holders of the defending champions, in the anticipated Fall Classic.
"It's incredible for this squad, our city, our country," said Springer, an integral part of the Astros team that won the 2017 World Series. "It's truly an amazing experience."
Springer has now connected for 23 total post-season home runs, placing him third all-time after Manny Ramirez (twenty-nine) and Altuve (twenty-seven).
"There's probably not anyone else in the world that I'd prefer in that moment other than him with his playoff prowess," noted Schneider.
Seattle's team, despite leading the series two games to none and three games to two, continue to be the only MLB franchise that has never reached in a Fall Classic.
Mariners manager Dan Wilson commented "without a doubt that it's painful" following his club's elimination at Rogers Centre, but commended their performance throughout the year.
"They're an exceptional squad. Unfortunately that we had to come out on the wrong side of this game," he added.
Toronto secured the World Series on both previous visits in 1992 and '93, and are set to host the Dodgers in the opener on the upcoming Friday.
