This Swine Life: Pig Named 6-7 Granted Clemency by Miami-Dade Mayor.
It might not have been at the identical stature as pardoning holiday birds, but the mayor of Miami-Dade conducted a ceremonial pardon event this week by formally pardoning the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“This animal is guiltless. Clemency is justified for her. No offenses are on her docket,” stated the mayor in a speech with inescapable allusions to the vast quantity of pardons issued from the start of the onset of a second term in office.
“If we disregard eating six or seven apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “May this pig enjoy a prosperous future free from concern.”
The gathering, simultaneously observing and challenging the local cultural practice of consuming swine during the holidays, was established to mirror the yearly bird sparing at the White House.
The pig, donated by a local firefighter, was named for the current slang trend of young people exclaiming “6-7” – originating from a musical verse – often without clear purpose. The craze became so widespread that a major dictionary recently named “6-7” its 2025 word of the year.
A New Life
The pardoned swine is now set to enjoy its days at a countryside refuge “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the organizers' announcement.
“This swine clemency has become a cherished method to begin the festive period,” said the cafe owner, in a notably cheerful message.
“It represents the character of Miami: vibrant, diverse, and rooted in traditions that unite the community. Each year, we are proud to celebrate culture and compassion in a way only Miami can.”
Participants enjoyed a meat-free selection of spinach croquetas and Cuban coffee as they toasted Six Seven’s big moment.
