This Limited-Edition Pikachu Promo Aims to Curb the Influence Against Resellers

Marking the arrival of a captivating new book Pokécology: An Illustrated Guide to Pokémon Ecology, an exciting collaboration has been formed. Pokémon's creators alongside the Natural History Museum will launch a temporary store stocked with exclusive items. Enthusiasts will find products like stationery, plushes, and artwork all inspired by the institution's theme. The big draw, though, will be a specially made Pikachu card, offered as a gift with purchase for the pop-up. This shop is scheduled from the physical location and its web counterpart from January 26 to April 19.

The Book Behind the Collaboration

Pokécology: An Illustrated Guide to Pokémon Ecology is a highly anticipated volume filled with beautiful artwork that show creatures in their wild environments. It's essentially like what a Pokémon Professor could produce once trainers provide field notes, alternatively what Charles Darwin might have created had the Galapagos were populated by Pidgeys rather than birds. Part of the charm stems from the book's scholarly approach, treating Pokémon as a legitimate subject for inquiry. Author Yoshinari Yonehara together with illustrator Chihiro Kinoshita each possess doctorate degrees in animal behavior and ecology.

What Makes This Special Card Different

It is common to issue to release promos celebrating major tournaments and brand collaborations. A lot of these promotional cards typically highlight the iconic mouse Pokémon who serves as the series face. The factor setting this new promotion apart however, is the distinctly bigger size. While exact measurements have not been publicly disclosed, availability is guaranteed to be highly restricted, with fans able to get just one card per purchase.

Curbing Speculator Interest

According to a company announcement, a portion of the pop-up items may also be available beyond the institution itself. However, a wider release will only be specific stores in the UK. Critically, fans cannot acquire the card through the official web shop. While speculator demand is inevitable, it appears they're going to have a difficult time stockpiling large numbers on this occasion. If you're feeling left out, consider an alternative like Pokémon Fossil exhibit headed to Chicago in the coming months.

"All profits of sales made in the museum store and from its online store, including Pokémon products, go toward the Natural History Museum’s non-profit work. This includes the efforts of 400 scientists who are scientific inquiry and finding solutions to the global ecological crisis," the statement says.
