Slot Insists He Feels Safe and Has The Club's Support After PSV Eindhoven Humiliation
The Liverpool head coach conceded that it was expected for questions to be asked about his position after a further convincing loss against the Dutch champions.
Liverpool endured their ninth defeat in 12 games, marking the club's poorest streak since being demoted in 1953-54.
They were dominated by the Dutch league title holders on a punishing night at their home ground.
“I feel secure, things are alright, I've received plenty of support from management,” the coach remarked.
“It's important to reverse this trend and secure a win naturally but when you're working as a coach and underperforming then it is normal that doubts arise.”
He continued, “I'm comfortable with my situation. This isn't the initial instance I've found myself in a difficult position but it is about time that we turned it around.”
Conversations with The Board
Upon being questioned to expand on his discussions with the Liverpool hierarchy, Slot explained:
“We talk a lot. They are supportive to the team and for me and those talks happen but they aren't calling me constantly each day to say they have faith in me.”
He mentioned, “During our regular discussions I feel the belief. However I've not talked to them after this defeat so far so it remains to be seen.”
Persistent Failings and Squad Reaction
Slot highlighted known shortcomings from his Liverpool side in their European loss, specifically poor finishing and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was blunter in his evaluation of the team's situation.
“I don’t have the solutions. Honestly, I do not. I’m saying that to everyone,” the midfielder remarked.
“It's simply not good enough. I don't have to wait to consider it. I’m past being angry internally. I’m at the point currently where I simply lack the words.”
He continued, “It's difficult because I play for the team I support. I'm a supporter, and I’ve seen this club all my life.”
“In a long, long time, I haven’t experienced a Liverpool team enduring a spell like this with outcomes so bad.”
Jones stated, “But we still have the crest on our chest. And until that badge is taken away, we'll continue to battle.”
“Our aim is to bring this squad return to the top, show everyone again what this club is about and why it's known as the top club in the planet.”
“However currently, things are bad and we have to turn it around.”
