Manchester United Poised to Secure Germany Forward Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich

The Women's Super League club are finalising completing the signing for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move from Bayern Munich.

A Major Signing for the WSL Side

The forward, with half a year left on her contract, is known as a prolific goal-getter for both club and country. She has scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. Her arrival will be seen as a major signing for the Women’s Super League team.

Departure from Bayern was expected after she appeared to be holding back emotions while thanking the club's fans after a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

It was reported in December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its leading strikers. According to multiple sources, the formalities for the transfer have now been completed.

Consistent Goal Threat to Boost United's Attack

The experienced striker's arrival is expected to provide a significant uplift to the team's attacking options. She has been highly reliable with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.

  • Over seven straight seasons, up to and including the last term, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Gathering Steam at Old Trafford

Securing the German international comes at a time when United seem to be building positive momentum.

Their recent performances include securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the mid-season window has seen additional business:

  1. The acquisition of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since joining in 2023.

On the midfielder's extension, a club official stated: “Miyazawa is now a vital part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill allows her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”

Lundkvist, who has joined from a club in the American league, said: “You can feel how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
