Catherine's Traditional Festive Service of Carols Pays Tribute to Charity Helpers

The Princess of Wales is hosting her annual festive musical service at the historic Abbey, with a congregation comprising royals, celebrities and local heroes who have supported their local areas.

The large audience will listen to a mix of carols, music and readings from actors such as Kate Winslet and Chiwetel Ejiofor.

Centred Around Kindness and Compassion

The central message of the concert, held in the atmospheric historic church on the afternoon, is kindness and showing love to others.

Among the guests will be Anna and Jonathan Cordiner, whose young girl was lost to a brain tumour, and who set up a charity, Kayleigh's Wee Stars, to help households where there is a terminally ill child.

"Your efforts, love, and understanding, often without fanfare or recognition, and without any expectation or recognition, make an extraordinary difference to the well-being of people," Her Royal Highness stated in a note prior to the carol service.

A Gradual Return

The royal has been undertaking her own gradual return to the public eye following her health challenges and treatment, recently giving her major oration since 2023, in which she reflected on recognising the "quiet, often invisible work of caring".

Music and Opportunity

Attendees entering the Abbey can listen to young musicians backed by the Future Talent organisation, set up with the help of the Duchess of Kent to broaden opportunities for music lessons.

An 18-year-old named Carys Wood, who plays the trumpet and is from Wales, has been helped by the trust, with grants helping towards musical instruments, lessons and travel costs - and she said it was "incredible" to be playing at the concert.

"Music can be very expensive," she stated. She is now enrolled at the prestigious music academy, and added that "all people deserve the chance" to hone their artistic talents.

Generations Gathering

Eliza, Carys's sister who is 11, who plays the euphonium, will likewise attend the Abbey. "I never imagined I would perform in front of so many important people," she said.

Attending the service will be representatives of different generations.

That will include nine-year-old Saphia Turner, honouree of a youth community award, who produces drawings and undertakes charity feats to generate funds for local food charities.

Seasonal Ambiance and Entertainment

The Abbey has been festooned with handcrafted festive wreaths, with well-known chef Mary Berry and flower expert Simon Lycett helping to make them.

The musical lineup includes Katie Melua, the Abbey's own choir and a Cornish sea shanty group, the Fisherman's Friends, who said the chance to take part was "a dream come true."

The festive event titled 'Together at Christmas' will be televised and shown on ITV1 on Christmas Eve.
