The British tennis star achieved the biggest success of his career by rebounding from a early deficit to overcome top-ranked player Carlos Alcaraz in three hard-fought sets in the second round of the Paris Masters.

While he had before defeated Alcaraz on two prior meetings, this triumph marks Norrie's initial win over a sitting world top-ranked player.

"Huge. Extremely important for me," said Norrie, who joins as the latest English competitor in history to overcome a top-ranked player. "Coming back from injury last year, I lost in the first round of qualies here. I just aimed to embrace my game in the second half of the year. To achieve a triumph like this, it's the most significant success of my career, my initial victory over the top player and arguably the most confident athlete in the world right now."

The British player, ranked 31st in the world, also ended Alcaraz's dominant run of nine finals in a row and 17 straight elite tournament wins, which represented the finest stretch of performances in the Spanish star's young career.

The top seed looked to be progressing easily to success at the start as he cruised through the initial stanza. Yet, Norrie slowly battled back into the match by serving with improved accuracy and engaging the Spanish opponent into extended, demanding points. His unceasing shot tolerance and dependability slowly took its toll.

During large parts of the battle, the world number one delivered strong serves but he had difficulty to get his timing right with his rally strokes. The 22-year-old appeared notably uneasy hitting his signature shot, which has been the best shot in the sport for most of this year, committing 29 mistakes off the forehand side and a combined of 54 unforced errors. Across the net, Norrie offered Alcaraz very few errors, keeping up his reliability, physicality and depth throughout while serving efficiently and choosing his moments to move forward and play aggressively.
