Arteta Praises ‘More Reliable’ Squad and Confirms Kai Havertz Setback.
Mikel Arteta remains confident that his team can keep managing with injury setbacks following disclosing that star striker Kai Havertz remains out for a few more weeks.
Prolonged Recovery for Havertz
Havertz has been absent for months following an operation on his knee. Initially expected to return at the start of this month, the manager stated the player hit a snag when advancing his rehabilitation and was unable to move forward “the next phase.”
“We learned, and we were able to put together a group that is much more reliable and has increased versatility,” commented Arteta.
Tactical Decisions for Brentford Clash
This development presents a tactical puzzle for Wednesday’s fixture at the Emirates against Brentford. A decision is required between persisting with Mikel Merino, who got a goal playing out of position on Sunday, or bringing back Viktor Gyökeres, who featured briefly from a muscle injury as a substitute. Long-term absentee Gabriel Jesus is in contention following a lengthy absence.
Fitness Doubts Persist
More doubts involve defender William Saliba and attacker Leandro Trossard, who both missed the Chelsea match. Therefore, recent arrivals Cristhian Mosquera and Piero Hincapié are likely to continue in the backline for the league leaders.
Arteta believes the significant outlay on new players during the summer has left Arsenal in a far better place to deal with such setbacks.

When asked if increased squad depth was helping their league challenge, his response was positive. “Yes, since the current term has presented greater challenges in the attacking line, and now the situation with the backline,” he noted.
“History has shown us that we have to use players in different positions, and they have to be able to adapt to new tasks if we are to fight at the highest level. And the case of Mikel is just the best one.”

Speaking about the complication previously mentioned by Germany manager Julian Nagelsmann, Arteta provided further detail. “He followed all protocols. He was unable to progress to the required step and now it appears like we have overcome that hurdle.”
The manager conveyed his keenness to see him return. “We’re all desperate to have him. Honestly, he is a footballer who, in my view, I value highly for his contributions to the team, but his personality, his nature. I observe his frustration on the sidelines.”
