Antony Price, Famed for Styling Bowie and Duran Duran, Dies at 80.

The British designer Antony Price, the influential UK-based designer responsible for a series of unforgettable images worn by artists from David Bowie to Roxy Music and even royalty like Queen Camilla, has died at 80 years old.

He was celebrated for his defined forms and performative fashion, such as the light-hued ensembles that appeared in the iconic band Duran Duran's seminal music video for "Rio".

"Remembering him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' Duran Duran shared a message on social media."

Price's death comes just weeks after he unveiled his most recent collection in London, his first in more than 30 years. The performer Lily Allen modelled a dress evoking the notorious black velvet "dress" historically worn by Princess Diana.

A Pioneering Career

Hailing from Yorkshire, where he was born in 1945, Price moved to London during the sixties to attend the esteemed Royal College of Art.

A year after graduating, he began designing men's fashion at the label Stirling Copper and was responsible for the tight, button-detailed trousers that The Rolling Stones' frontman Mick Jagger wore during The Rolling Stones' "Gimme Shelter" tour in the late sixties.

He founded his own label in 1979 and presented his inaugural collection a year later. The show opened with looks from the famed model Jerry Hall, who was also seen in the bridal gown Price created for her for her marriage to Sir Mick Jagger.

Collaborations with Icons

A frequent collaborator of musical chameleon David Bowie, Price designed the memorable jacket the singer wore for his "the song As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His characteristic talent to fuse tailoring for all genders along with his expert craftsmanship in shaping form-fitting garments made him a "true original," as stated by the British Fashion Council.

During the nineties, he commenced designing ensembles for Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, such as various looks for her American tour after assuming the title.

With a vocation that covered more than five decades, Price presented his final runway show in London just last month in partnership with the label 16Arlington.
