Members of an Italian family of thieves who stole more than £1.2 million worth of goods, including from ex- NUFC forward Alexander Isak, have been ordered to return just £1 each.

Brothers Valentino and Giacomo, their female sibling Jela Jovanovic and her son Charlie travelled to the northeastern of England to raid three houses in April 2024.

The foursome were jailed for between a decade or less in May 2025.

At a criminal assets hearing at Newcastle Crown Court, Jela Jovanovic and the brothers Nikolov were instructed to pay back £1 each while Charlie must pay £1,135.

Particulars of the Burglaries

The court previously heard the gang came by ferry in the UK on March 27, 2024 and used a campervan as their "headquarters", which they stationed at Scotch Corner and Durham service rest stops while utilizing another car to search for targets and execute burglaries.

On March 31 they took over one million pounds of goods such as high-end fashion, handbags, jewellery and a honor from a residence on a street in Jesmond, Newcastle, while the owners were on holiday.

The next evening, the crew entered a house on a gated cul-de-sac in Whitburn, South Tyneside, and took designer handbags, jewellery and shoes valued at over one hundred thousand pounds.

After scouting out the football club's facility for two days, they then acted at the residence of Sweden striker Mr Isak in Darras Hall, Ponteland on 4 April, stealing £10,000 in money, sixty-eight thousand pounds worth of jewellery and the player's one hundred twenty thousand pound Audi RS6.

The group, who were described by prosecutors as professional touring burglars, wore gloves and masks, turned their mobile devices off as they neared their targets and attached a license plate, which had been taken from a auto shop in a town, on to their vehicle with rubber straps.

They were apprehended in the Birmingham on April 13.

Legal Hearings and Rulings

Valentino had denied conspiracy to burglary but was convicted by jurors, while his family members had all entered admissions to the same charge.

At the criminal gains hearing, lawyer the prosecution said each of the burglars had profited from their offenses to the amount of over £1.2 million, which was determined by what the victims said they had had stolen.

But Charlie was the only one deemed to have any money that could be "realised", specifically £1,135.50 which had already been seized by police, the court heard, with two weeks to be spent in jail if he defaulted.

The other three had no assets or property so were directed to make a nominal fee of £1 per person, with seven days in incarceration the consequence if the money was not submitted.

The judge Spragg said if they were discovered with property in the future, "for example driving around in Italy in a sports car or possessing a home", the prosecution could initiate further action to "recover the sum due".
